Have the 56 Nord packed up their roof box again?

Anyone searching online for a roof box that complements their car’s sporty look, offers plenty of storage space, and produces minimal wind noise will sooner or later come across the 56° Nord website .

On its website and popular social media channels, 56° Nord is presented as a Swedish manufacturer of roof boxes made of carbon fiber and ABS. 56° Nord’s focus is clearly on roof boxes for sports cars and sport SUVs.

EDIT Fall 2021:

Once it became clear that the 56° North roof box wouldn’t be coming to market, we decided to design our own roof box. It was intended to withstand higher speeds and place a strong emphasis on aerodynamics as well as design. And after two years of development, we’ve finally succeeded: the development of a roof box for sports cars. Built for coupes, sedans, station wagons, and SUVs.

We are pleased to announce that you can now order . The first generation will be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will initially be limited to arun of 100 units. So act fast—the first roof boxes have already been pre-ordered.

 EDIT November 2019:

We spent over a year testing various roof boxes. However, none of them fully met our expectations, as you can read in thetest reports. So, in mid-2019, we set out to develop our own roof box.

We combine the perfect design, aerodynamic shaping, high stability, and low weight. 

What makes this special is that we’re limiting the car models for which we recommend the box. A detailed list will be available soon. But for now, let’s just say we plan to cover most models from BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, and Tesla. Even though the blog is a bit Porsche- and 911-heavy right now, that’s simply because this is our own car—which sets the bar very high, so you won’t have to make any compromises with your own model either.

Was sofort ins Auge fällt, ist die sehr nah am Dach anliegende Befestigung und eine Diffuser-Ähnliche Form am Heck der Box. So sollen die Windgeräusche minimiert werden und auch Geschwindigkeiten fern der sonst üblichen und empfohlenen 130 km/h möglich sein. Die gewählten Materialien sind Carbon und ABS. Die Formgebung der Dachbox macht klar, dass Familienurlaub im Sportwagen möglich ist, ohne die aerodynamische Optik eines Sportwagen zu beeinträchtigen. Auf den Fotos, die 56 Nord auf ihrer Webpage bereitstellen, wirkt die Dachbox auf einem Audi R8, Porsche 911er oder Lamborghini nicht störend. Anders sieht es aus, wenn man bei Google die Box „unbearbeitet“ mit einem handelsüblichen Basisträger auf einem BMW oder unmodifizierten Audi A6 sieht.
