EDIT Fall 2021:

Once it became clear that the56° Nord roof box wouldn'tbe comingto market, we decided to design our design our own roof box. It’s designedto withstandhigher speeds and places a strongemphasis on aerodynamics as well as design. And after two years of development, we’ve finally succeeded: the development of aroof box for sports cars. Built for coupes, sedans, station wagons, and SUVs.

We are pleased to announce that youcannow order . The first generation will be shipped in the fourth quarter of 222 andwillinitiallybelimited to arun of 100 units. So act fast, because the first roof boxes have already been pre-ordered.

As promised, we'll keep you updated. Anyone who's been following our blog for a while knows that we've actually been trying to find the perfect roof box for our 911—one that doesn't require us to make any compromises.

To make a long story short: We couldn't find anything on the market that met our expectations. Poor aerodynamics, low material stability, heavy weight, and—above all— a lousy design that just didn't match the car's lines.

We've gone through all the boxes

We've also had a chance to check out the 56Nord Box, which looks great on paper in terms of both specs and design.

Like many other roof boxes, these look pretty good in photos taken from a certain angle. In reality, however, when mounted on standard cars and basic roof racks, you ultimately have to make compromises again.

In short: we internally closed the chapter on “finding the perfect roof box on the market.”

A New Chapter for Asphaltkind

As we’ve been announcing to select contacts for several months now, we are currently developing a roof box ourselves, with a focus on aerodynamics, stability, weight, and design—precisely the issues that have always bothered us and for which there has been no satisfactory solution to date.

This also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Asphaltkind. Behind the scenes, we’ve already transformed from a blog—which originally aimed simply to make the Porsche 911 even more suitable for everyday use—into a company dedicated to developing the perfect roof box. Our team has been working on the design and key features for several months now, always drawing on our experience and high standards. It’s important to note that our roof box will look perfect on virtually every car model —from the Audi A6 to the Porsche 911, including the Mercedes C-, E-, and GLC-Class and the BMW X6, all the way to Tesla models and every other comparable vehicle.

It's Going to Be Uncompromising

We’ve focused on the coupe-like lines that are found on nearly every modern car these days. Even station wagons are increasingly featuring a sloping rear end. That’s exactly where we started. If you’re interested, you can ask us for a detailed list of the models we had in mind.

Automotive design and customer expectations have changed dramatically in recent years. The roof box market, on the other hand, continues to churn out the same old run-of-the-mill products. Until now. (: Because from now on, there will be no compromises!
